españa a vela

«España a Vela» this Sunday on TV2

We met Ernesto Cortina, the owner of the Grand Jotiti, in the 2012 Edition of the Atlantic Grand Prix. Crews were preparing to cross the Atlantic in this race leaving from Marina Rubicon arriving to Martinique. Back then, the boat that Ernesto was armoring was known as the «Telefónica black». It broke the record for the Atlantic crossing. Obviously, we only saw each other in the beginning. Also in those so common preliminaries of marine frequenting the bars, especially our «One». The One Bar, now the best bar for those who sail.

We know the special affection that Ernesto and his crew process towards Lanzarote. It is not difficult to see them with his brand new Grand Jotiti here, in Lanzarote and especially in Marina Rubicon. As mentioned in several previous articles, it is no coincidence that more and more racing boats adopted this area as their training base. The conditions of constant winds, sea and especially the mild climate make this place the perfect place to enjoy sailing and test all equipment for the harsh conditions that later will be  found in their circumnavigation enclave. Teams like SCA, Team Brunel, and the Spanish Desafio Maphre already have tried.

Some time ago we heard about the new Ernesto’s project: «España a vela», and seemed to us a fantastic idea. Sailing across the peninsula and its islands with a sailboat as the Great Jotiti discovering this wonderful coast, and especially the world of sailing, had to give an outstanding result.

This sailboat has nothing to do with the VOR. We can state that combines the concept of racing yacht and luxury cruise: 18.9 meters long, 5.12 meters wide, carbon fiber hull, components last generation. It has an upwind sail area of 207 square meters and 537 in bearing.

Don’t miss it!

Sunday July 27, 2014 at 15:00 peninsular time, opens in TVE 2 this documentary which will cover chapter by chapter the 7,800 km of the Spanish coast. In Nautic Ocean, as lovers of the sea, its people and the world of sailing, can not miss the opportunity to recommend this program. And, of course, with special attention to the arrival of the Great Jotiti to Lanzarote coast, where it know has a home.
